Team Building Activities That Will Remove The “I” From Your Team’s Work

You’ve noticed a quiet, somber mood around the office. Everyone’s noses are to the grindstone, but you would not call the office environment cheerful. In fact, there’s been a few missed deadlines and a few unhappy customers.

Sometimes offices get into an “I” rut. The Is are working hard, but you know they will work better and efficient when they communicate with one another. It is time for you to put together a company team building activity to help put the “E” back in your team.

Below are a few ideas to help you get the ball rolling.

Escape Rooms

Escape Room Clues

These physical adventure games are becoming increasingly popular. Using clues, players must solve puzzles in a certain amount of time to get to the next challenge. The rooms are typically themed according to the clues the team is trying to solve. For example, there is a lot of Frankenstein and Zombie themed escape rooms.

Some rooms are customized for team building. Once the game ends, the company will allow your staff to analyze their moves and decisions. They will find out how well they communicated with one another. Moreover, this allows you as an employer and your employees to find better ways to work and communicate together.

Scavenger Hunt

This is a tried and true team building event. They are highly competitive, but be careful of the smack talking. The number one rule of a scavenger hunt should be fun and work as a team.

Perform hunts in various locations around your city. There are even companies that can help coordinate a team-building scavenger hunt for you. They use various modes of transportation from walking, bikes, and automobiles.

In addition, if you are a service provider, consider getting your customers or vendors involved. This will build better relationships with your employees.

You can even use smartphones to run your scavenger hunt. There are Apps or you can have teams take pictures proving they completed each section of a scavenger hunt.

Obstacle Course

Obstacle Course

This team building activity can be very strenuous so make sure everyone is physically up to the challenge. The course can include tug of war, zip lining, wall climbing, and mazes just to name a few.

If your team is up for a physical challenge, consider entering competition courses like Tough Mudder, Warrior Dash, and Spartan. If your team didn’t work together before the competition, they will now.

League Sports

Obstacle Course

This team building activity has been part of the work environment the longest. Baseball and softball are the most popular league sport team-building activities. There is also volleyball, basketball, flag football.

You can either run a Google search or contact your local chamber of commerce to see what type of corporate leagues are in your area.

Charity

Teddy Bear Charity

Another great team-building activity is to connect your team emotionally. Organize a charity team-building activity. These activities will make your team feel good about themselves by helping others.

Some great team-building charity ideas are:

Bikes for Kids – Employees are put into teams. The goal is to build as many bikes to give to the community. Operation Toy Soldier is a great organization and will gladly accept your completed bikes.

Build A Teddy Bear – This is another great team building project. Same concept as above. Teams build as many bears as they can to donate.

Food Bank/Soup Kitchen – If you’re stopping work for the day, why not have your team donate their time to a food bank and/or soup kitchen. Sometimes teams can get caught up in self-absorption. The fact they focus so hard on the job, they forget how to feel. Going to a food bank or soup kitchen is a great way to put the heart back into your team.

Above are great ideas to help get the company office out of a rut. Your employees will appreciate the break and get back in touch with one another.
