How To Make The Most Of Your Kitchen Space

Let’s be honest – the kitchen is the most highly trafficked area in your home. You make all of your meals there. You eat most of your meals there. And you spend a lot of time hanging out inside the kitchen in between making and eating your meals.

Because of this, you’ll have a lot of your daily supplies in the kitchen and overtime, it can become quite cluttered.

Most of the time, it will not be laid out in the most organized fashion. And your countertops can become magnets for those items you can’t make space for in your pantry.

Let’s explore some life changing ideas for organizing your kitchen better, and how you can maximize the space you have to store your kitchen supplies.

Add your own island

Typically in a kitchen, an island is a large piece of furniture that can take up a substantial amount of floor space. However, you can find many different sizes of islands available for sale online.

It’s really worth looking into if you would like to get rid of that clunky old island that’s dominating your kitchen. Find an island with caster wheels so you can move it aside when cleaning the floors, or when you need to open up some floor space for a special dinner project.

Inside of most islands you’ll find multiple drawers or shelves for easy organization. Make the most of these dividers by categorizing your dishes, paper towels, or As Seen On TV gadgets in order of most often used or by size.

Give your cabinets an upgrade

Some kitchen plans include a countertop that wraps around the corner of two walls in the room. Because of this, you’ll often have cabinets in that corner that can be tricky to reach and organize. Especially if the doors of the corner cabinets bump into each other.

Look into organizing this corner cabinet with a Lazy Susan. Lazy Susans are typically rotating trays or shelves that you can store food or dishes on, making the most of the corner space while also granting you easy access to everything within the cabinet.

You can also look into diagonal opening corner cabinets. By sacrificing a little bit of extra space, you can install a beautiful corner cabinet system that allows you to better organize your kitchen. They also open up more effectively than traditional cabinet doors, speeding up your cleaning time.

Maximize your wall space

If you need extra space in your kitchen, look no further than your walls! You can typically find some extra space on the walls, whether you have a full wall open, or just the space between the cabinets and the countertops. You can also add floating shelves onto the walls to store knickknacks, bigger dishes, or spices.

For smaller spaces, add a rod to hang up dish utensils like soup ladles or pots and pans. Adding hooks to your kitchen walls opens up the option to hang knives, pot holders, and even oven mitts. This can add a functional utility for storage as well as a way to decorate your kitchen with your everyday items.

Our last bit of advice for making the most of your kitchen space is to keep everything cleaned and organized. The buildup of dirt and clutter can negate any efforts you make to upgrade your kitchen.
